Settling Children into the Centre Guidelines

Children and Whānau needs will always come first when settling into the centre and individual needs will be met throughout this transitioning time.

All staff will be sensitive to differing cultural, social and family needs. On enrolment parents/whānau are invited to spend as much time as necessary in the centre familiarising their child with routines, experiences and people. There is no charge for these initial sessions.
All relevant information which is in our enrolment pack will be shared prior to starting e.g. subsidy and 20 Hours ECE.

A key teacher is assigned to help establish trust and gain a sense of belonging from the first visit into the centre.

In the nursery a primary caregiver will be assigned to each child, as well as a secondary caregiver.

whānau are welcome to stay during these visits, to enable them to observe their child settling into the centre. Parents/whānau are welcome to bring any special comforter to support their child.

In order to build a sense of trust parents are asked to say good-bye to their child, rather than just leave. They are encouraged to ring the centre for reassurance and see how their child is doing.

Parents/whānau will receive feedback from the key teacher on the settling process.
